Around a month ago we put together a full daytime skincare regime for men that covered the most important factors to maintaining healthy skin. However, whilst the day can be a workout for your skin, the night hours are when it is given the chance to recover and repair any damage or stress it has received. We’ve put together three different routines that are specifically designed to aid this repair in a variety of situations and, in some cases, help alleviate some of the issues faced when your skin isn’t given the chance to rest and recuperate.
The Early Night – Luxury Recovery
It’s an early week night and you’ve arrived home after a long day at work or a tough workout and collapsed on the couch, exhausted you decide you’ll have a chilled night and get to bed early. This presents you with the perfect opportunity to help calm your mind and help nourish your skin, ensuring that your skin recovers more effectively, blemishes are reduced and skin feels clearer the following day.
Our Chosen Product: Aesop Chamomile Anti-Blemish Masque – £33
It is testimony to this product’s quality that we often find it out of stock on the website and in stores, it is a natural and extremely effective way of providing luxurious facial skincare overnight. We initially followed the instructions, applying it and leaving it on for 15 minutes before washing it off, the results were not bad but also not great. However, we were later told by fellow bloggers that if you left it overnight the mask was much more effective at cleansing the skin. It’s especially effective at clearing up oily skin without drying it out too much or causing irritation.
The Regular Night – Relieve Tiredness
Now that we’re a little further into the week you’ve maybe gone out for dinner with your friend/partner, worked a little later or maybe just are staying up watching Netflix. The week is beginning to take effect and you’ve got the classic sign of under-eye bags becoming more prominent, it’s not ideal and you’re keen to get rid of them as much as possible before your night out on Friday.
Our Chosen Product: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye – £24.50
Bags under the eyes are something we are very familiar with and have attempted multiple products that claim to treat it. This offering from Kiehl is by far-and-away the most successful we’ve used (even if it is quite expensive for the amount you get). Applied just before you go to bed it helps relieve puffiness around the eyes and hydrates, thus reducing the darkness of the bags and making the overall eye area appear more awake. There are a good deal of reviews, on the product page itself, praising the performance of this cream and its quality if you’d like to hear other people’s opinions of it. We’re hooked and we’d recommend to anyone who suffers from this problem as a great treatment.
The Late/Heavy Night Out – Emergency Morning Repair
So it’s Friday morning, you’ve been a bit foolish and decided to have a few drinks after work which subsequently spiraled into you finding yourself being kicked out of the bar at 1am, with only a pocketful of receipts to remind you of your misguided generosity to complete strangers. You feel completely parched and your skin feels hot and puffy, making for a rather unattractive pink, sweaty look no matter how much water you drink. You need a quick solution and luckily there is one for such an emergency.
Our Chosen Product: NuBo White Diamond Ice Glow Mask – £120
We realise that the price tag may be drawing a few sharp intakes of breath but bear with us, if you really need to look your best after a night like the one we’ve described then this is the product to help you. The mask uses a combination of mint, fresh cut rose and micro-encapsulated oxygen to help rapidly cool the skin and sooth puffiness (it’s a similar feeling to when you eat something very minty and then take a deep breath). Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then wash off, be especially careful of your eyes as if it comes in contact with them it does try to cool them down too (this hurts, trust us).
We do have some minor reservations with the product, mainly that the packaging is a bit glitzy for male consumers (in our opinion) and the fragrance could be a little fresher to help with the sensation of cooling the skin. However, these are minor qualms in the grand scheme of this product and, quite frankly, it’s already saved our skin (literally) after a few Thursday nights in town.
So those are three products we recommend to help your skin recover during (or after) a variety of night-time scenarios.
